Curriculum

 

Russian and Ukrainian Universities are known nationally for its many innovative teaching, clinical training and research programs. Our award-winning faculty members constantly strive for innovation and excellence in the classroom, the laboratory and the clinic. Because the class size is relatively small, faculty members get to know each student. It is one thing to say the University has terrific people and programs and another to prove it.

In Ukrainian and Russian Universities the academic year is divided into two semesters.

  • First semester starts in the first to mid of September and lasts till the last week of January.
  • The second semester starts in the first week of February lasts till mid of July.

The studies at the University start on the 1st of September, at the pre-medical department – on the 1st of October every year.

Within the week there are 5 working days, Saturday and Sunday are holidays. The studies are scheduled from 8.00 to 16.00. The student’s working week comprises 54 hours; within this time period there are 36 lecturing hours and 18 hours for independent work.
The teaching course period includes the time of teaching semesters, final control and vacations. The teaching year is 12 months long and comprises teaching days, days of final control, examination sessions , off days, celebration and vacation days. Attendance of all kinds of studies (except for consultations) is obligatory for the students.

Summer vacation covers the month of July and August. During holidays students may have easy access to CIS & all countries in Europe by bus, train and flights. Special program and trips are also available to enable students to experience first hand the transition process in Russia or Ukrainian, CIS counties and elsewhere in Europe.

THE MEDICAL COURSE

The Medical course at governmental Russian and Ukrainian Universities takes six years and leads to MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MBBS. In the under graduate program, during six years of study the students learn different subjects from fundamental subjects disciplines to special medical subjects. The practice of medicine remains one of the most requested of all professions and we believe that the Russian and Ukrainian Universities are the perfect place to acquire medical knowledge and gain the degree. We believe students are enrolling in Russian and Ukrainian Universities for the right reasons – they want to provide care for people and they feel that as physicians they can make a difference in their communities. For that reason, we have great faith that there is a bright future for health care.

Foreign students study in group of 8-12 students. The Second year students attend their clinical studies where they can gain experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught beginning from the third year of study. Students can study any topic of interest and to rise their of knowledge in the departments. All six years of the program are important and all must be passed successfully before students are permitted to graduate.

The medium of instruction in the Medical faculty is English and Russian language. The Ministry of education and Ministry of Public Health Ukraine approved the curriculum of the medical faculties of our governmental Russian and Ukrainian Universities.

For the first 3 years of training students are mainly focused on theoretical subjects at the departments of biology, medical physics, chemistry, biochemistry, human anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology, microbiology, Latin and foreign languages, social sciences. During the last 3.5 years students are offered extensive practical training in various fields of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, public health and prevention. One of the most distinguished features of our medical education is complete practical student-patient experience in all clinical classes. This provides a unique opportunity for students to be well skilled in modern diagnostic and treatment approaches.

The successful students who will complete study of five years, then on graduation work for another year under probation in order to gain general registration. There is a wide range of specialization available in the public and private sectors, involving research, academic medicine, public health, clinical medicine and other areas. Specialties include Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychological Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Public Health, General Practice and many others. Most doctors complete postgraduate training in their chosen specialty.

  • Humanitarian subjects — 1,576 hours;
  • Social-economic subjects — 432 hours;
  • Fundamental /general scientific/ subjects — 2,180 hours;
  • Professionally oriented subjects — 6,098 hours;
  • Elective courses — 324 hours;
  • Practical training — 972 hours;
  • Subinternship /in the 6-th year — 1,892 hours.

 

THE DENTISTRY COURSE

Curriculum at the dentistry faculty is provided for 5 academic years. The students go through the basic subjects of medical and biological profile, as well as various clinical disciplines, which are so necessary for a dentist. On condition of successful completion of study the graduates are given the Diploma of a Doctor – Dentist. The curriculum foresees the further postgraduate education. The degree awarded is BDS.

For the junior courses students study theoretical disciplines and beginning from the fourth course, they start studying clinical disciplines. At junior courses students study theoretical disciplines, whereas they start studying clinical disciplines from the fourth course. The chairs of anatomy, histology, normal physiology, biochemistry, general chemistry, having wonderful traditions in organization of educational process and high skilled teachers, could do profiles for the teaching of their disciplines, taking into account the faculty’s specificity. For mastering the propaedeutic course by students the departments have well equipped additional premises, acquired a necessary quantity of visual aids and special apparatus. Both teachers and students are involved in manuals’ edition at the University. A metal-ceramic laboratory and a laboratory for high frequency melting and casting of dentures are specially organized. At special dental departments the students study principal actual problems of dentistry: caries, paradonthosis, and diseases of the mucous membrane in the mouth cavity. The principle task of the dental faculty is perfection of higher dentistry education, raising the quality of doctors dental training. At the faculty they worked out and applied the complex of methodical ways for optimization of educational process, which is aimed at activization of cognitive activity of students, development of habits for educational and researching work, training the creative method of approach for professional activity. The stomatological faculty helps the students to obtain good knowledge in the dental field. It grows and develops, absorbing all the best from the experience of the University’s work.

  • social-economic subjects 486 hours;
  • fundamental /general scientific/ subjects 1,854 hours.

 

THE PHARMACY COURSE

The course in Pharmacy offered by Universities is designed for students who would like to specialize and be trained in the effective use of medicinal drugs. Pharmaceutical studies involve the study of chemical sciences together with health sciences. It helps ensure safe use and administration of pharmaceutical drugs.  Practicing pharmacy includes modern roles in health care and clinical services as well as reviewing drugs for more traditional services like dispensing and compounding medication.

The Pharmacy course offered by the University includes subjects like physiological sciences, human nutrition, pharmacology, professional practice, rural pharmacy, pharmaceutics, chemistry, microbiology, organic and medical agents, organic chemistry, therapeutics and scientific statistics. Over the course period, students will develop skills and knowledge in health promotion and will become effective in health information management and communication. The course is recognized world over and is well respected in the industry.

The pharmaceutical faculty was inaugurated by the Ministry for Education and Science for Ukraine.

The student acquire the fundamentals of medical and biological knowledge, learn in detail various subjects in the specialty and some clinical ones. On successful completion of study the graduates get the diploma of pharmacist. The faculty trains the students for work at the institutions of pharmacy and also for research work.

    

 

THE NURSING COURSE

The aim of the Bachelor’s Degree program in Nursing at Ukrainian and Russian Universities is to educate registered nurses to assume professional responsibilities working closely with the patient. Nurses must have good communication skills and be able to take part in developing healthcare. Course of Nursing focuses on extensive study of nursing theory and practice and training in clinical skills.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Ukrainian and Russian Universities University lasts two academic years and 10 months in English language. It follows the Bologna scheme and prepares future healthcare specialists to professional practice in the broadly defined discipline of nursing.

Students in the Nursing Bachelor Degree program gain the theoretical, practical, and personal knowledge and skills that are required to meet and take care of people who are in need of attention. Students get to take part in simulated modules that replicate real-world scenarios in order to gain practical skills.

A Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Ukrainian and Russian Universities supplies students with all the basic nursing skills. The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of nursing, encompassing the following areas: health promotion, preventive health care, health education, and – most importantly – a broad scope of treatment, rehabilitation and nursing procedures.

Students also interact with and assist real patients in preparation for careers upon graduation.

The Bachelor’s Degree program in Nursing utilizes a variety of learning techniques. Courses take place in specially-equipped labs where our students practice nursing procedures in simulated conditions. The skills are then transferred to real-life situations during work placements undertaken in various healthcare institutions and in such areas as primary health care, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, intensive care, rehabilitation, neurology, geriatrics, or palliative care. In addition to classroom learning students participate in work programs with professional healthcare organizations.

The study of nursing is an education in a profession of health care aimed at caring for people to help them gain or recover their health and quality of life. Nurses are responsible for the proper implementation of medical prescriptions and giving patients the care they require. Those trained in nursing are involved in everything from tutoring and supervising new nurses and students, to acting as a team leader and delegating work. Nurses also keep in contact with patients and their relatives on a daily basis.

Nurses have been responsible for maintaining quality health care for everyone, while also upholding their code of ethics, standards, and competencies. Nursing requires the use of a combination of concentrations including nursing theory, social science, physical science and technology. To work with nursing, one must take into account the psychological, intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs of patients. Nurses need excellent communication skills, as they discuss sensitive matters with patients and their relatives on a daily basis.
